British Apples & Pears Limited (BAPL) has published a new definition of regenerative apple and pear growing, providing the industry with a clear, crop-specific framework for understanding and advancing regenerative practices in commercial orchards.

Developed for the particular needs of apple and pear production, the definition recognises regenerative growing as a journey of continual improvement. It focuses on productive, resilient orchards that work with natural systems and support healthier soils, biodiversity and responsible resource use.

Ali Capper, executive chair at British Apples & Pears, said: “Regenerative agriculture is widely discussed but not always clearly defined – particularly for perennial crops. Our new definition gives growers, retailers and the wider supply chain a shared and practical understanding of what regenerative apple and pear growing means in a perennial orchard system.”
